The Reading Process

This week in one of my classes we are discussing the reading process. We have learned that the key features of the reading process are pre-reading, reading, responding to reading, exploring, and applying. For the sake of this blog, I will be discussing the "applying" feature of the reading process.

As a future teacher, I personally feel the applying section would be my favorite part of the reading process. I say this because the applying part is when the students take what they learn and apply it to new things. During the applying section of the reading process, teachers will really see which students understand what they learned and which students still need some extra guidance. This is when the teacher can see what they are doing is actually working. I think this is the best feeling!

When in the applying section there are so many options the teacher can choose from to show what the students have learned. For example, the students may create some sort of project, create a powerpoint, conduct readers' theater, have a grand conversation, and so much more! I really like how the options are limitless and once the teacher finds one their students seem to really enjoy, it can make learning that much more fun!

  1. I cannot wait to teach reading, all of these components are so important. I feel students who understand reading enjoy it more. I think it is also important to keep in mind the different ways a teacher can teach reading components, projects are a great way for students to engage.
