The Reading Process

This week in one of my classes we are discussing the reading process. We have learned that the key features of the reading process are pre-reading, reading, responding to reading, exploring, and applying. For the sake of this blog, I will be discussing the "applying" feature of the reading process.  As a future teacher, I personally feel the applying section would be my favorite part of the reading process. I say this because the applying part is when the students take what they learn and apply it to new things. During the applying section of the reading process, teachers will really see which students understand what they learned and which students still need some extra guidance. This is when the teacher can see what they are doing is actually working. I think this is the best feeling! Book List for Poetry Unit

I have discussed my poetry unit in my previous blogs. However, I will give a quick explanation again. In my Teaching Language Arts class, we are to create a unit. I chose to do my unit over poetry for the 3rd-grade level. In our units, we need to have a book list that we plan on using to help our students understand the content in our unit. Sketch to Stretch

In my college class, we are learning about different types of learning strategies we can use in our future classrooms. One of the strategies we have recently learned about is called a Sketch to Stretch. The Sketch to Stretch is a strategy to help the students break down concepts in the classroom by using different methods of learning, such as pictures and note-taking. This strategy can be used in several different ways.  I have created a sketch to stretch to show you have this method of learning can be used. In my example, I broke down who the character is, character traits, and the morale of the story. I used the picture book "Rainbow Fish".
