Word Walls
In the future, I hope to become a 2nd-grade teacher. I have always loved the littles and have found that I like to work with that grade level. Understanding new vocabulary terms is a fundamental skill to increase their reading skills. When word walls are included in the classroom, is a great resource for the students to refer to when they are struggling to find or spell a word. Due to this being a big resource, I believe as the teacher you should place the word wall in a central location in the classroom, that all students can easily see. I also think it is important to teach the students how to properly use the word wall and to introduce new words throughout the entire school year. In the second-grade, word walls are mostly sight words. These words are words they need to understand when they see them at sight. Second-grade words are the fundamental and building words of common reading.
When you look up second-grade word lists, you will see a combination of many different words. Some of these words will be simple words for adults and some of them are content-related. For example, some of the words that you will see are: however, again, area, school, whole, etc. As you can see, the majority of the words included in a second-grade word wall are frequently used words in the English language. The pictures included are examples of what the second-grade level word wall could look like (all images are found on Pinterest).

This is brilliant! I also want to do 2nd grade, that is the grade level that I would choose before anything and where I have done most of my observations. I observed a lot of fundations time in the morning, so I think this is an important one to have for this age group specifically. My favorite subjects to teach are reading and fundations I have realized, 2nd graders are at that age where they have learned how to read for the most part and are imporiving their reading and literacy skills.
ReplyDeleteI also love the images you added, I wish I would have added some in mine. It gives my brain a better visual.
ReplyDeleteValentena is right, you can be too cluttered, however, these are all amazing and interactive. I believe you will be a great teacher for the littles, but I see you as a middle grades teacher, too.
