Peer Lesson Plans
This past Wednesday for one of my college classes, each student in the class presented one lesson from their unit. We all are required to write a lesson plan for our grade and topic of choice. I loved being able to hear all of my peer's lessons because it shows how different teachers can teach from one another. I loved being able to look at lessons from other perspectives because it gives me other ideas of what I can do in my next lessons.
The first present that was able to present her lesson was Deni. Deni's lesson was to help students learn to summarize stories by sequencing events. One thing in particular that I really liked in her lesson was her hook. I think having a strong hook is important because this can set the whole mood for the lesson. Her hook involved showing the students a short trailer to the book they were going to read in class that day. To me, this sounds like an activity that will get the students excited to read and will help them become more engaged.
The next person to present in class was Jackiann. Jackiann's lesson was for younger grades. This lesson was to teach the student the -sh digraph. The first thing I noticed in her lessons was that she used literacy stations to help her students learn this new digraph in a variety of ways. One of my previous cooperating teachers used literacy stations every day in her classroom and it seemed to help her students a lot. Within these stations, Jackiann made sure to use and incorporate the I do, we do, you do strategy.
The last person I was able to learn from was Kristina. Kristina's lesson was about teaching the students fluency. Her approach to this was to have her students write a letter. I always love incorporating writing letters into the classroom because it is a great way to learn the content that is being taught, but it also teaches the student how to physically write a letter. The thing that really stood out to me though was that she was having the students write back to a letter they had received. I have never thought about having students reply to a letter before. This was a great idea!
Thanks everybody for sharing your lesson plans, I am excited to write one incorporating the writers workshop and try and steer away from the Madeline hunter design. All of your lessons were inspiring and made me want to change things up on my format.
